On the up and up!
The latest AP Poll was released today and Penn State basketball moved up three spots from No. 23 to No. 20. More importantly the Lions have settled into the No. 18 spot in the Net Rankings that the NCAA selection committee uses to help it pick the field for the tournament.
This comes after a week where the Nittany Lions played just one game, demolishing lowly Central Connecticut State 87-58.
The ranking marks the highest that Penn State has been since the finish of the 1995-96 season when the Nittany Lions checked in at No. 18.
The focus now moves forward to a game on Sunday against Cornell, which sports a 1-9 record overall. Assuming Penn State avoids a complete and utter meltdown against the Big Red, there’s a solid chance it moves up again.
The game against Cornell is the last of the non-conference slate and a win would give Pat Chambers’ squad a 10-1 record in non-con games and an 11-2 record overall.
