Less than a week after picking up a commitment from Golden Achumba, the offensive line recruiting momentum is still rolling for the Nittany Lions. Three-star interior offensive lineman R.J. Adams has joined Penn State’s 2020 recruiting class.
Adams was offered by Penn State when he visited campus for junior day in February. This offer quickly made the Nittany Lions one of the leaders in his recruitment. After a return visit to campus this weekend, James Franklin and company were able to seal the deal.
His three-star rating does not do Adams justice. Adams is a physical blocker that punishes defenders. He finishes his blocks and racks up more pancakes than someone on an all-you-can eat day at iHOP. The Virginia native has a mean streak and nastiness in his game that you love to see in an offensive lineman.
Adams plays offensive tackle in high school, but projects as an interior lineman in college. His best position projects to be guard, but he could also play center for the Nittany Lions. While he can play a little high at times, this is an easy fix. He has good hand placement and when he gets a hold of a defender’s chest plate it’s over. There is a lot of quality clay there for Matt Limegrover to mold.
When he arrives on campus Adams will be in need of a redshirt year. He will have some body refining to do and will need to work on his technique in some areas. With his size and strength already being pluses, he could make an early impact during his first two or three years on campus.
Adams is also a high school teammate of five-star linebacker target Antoine Sampah. Having Adams on board can only help the Nittany Lions in their pursuit of Sampah.
