According to a report from Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Tommy Stevens is in the transfer portal.
College football news: Penn State quarterback Tommy Stevens has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to a source #PennState— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) April 17, 2019
Stevens flirted with transferring last offseason, but decided to stick with Penn State in hopes of winning the starting quarterback job in 2019. While it was still expected that he was the frontrunner over Sean Clifford coming out of spring, one would assume something went awry as Stevens is taking a look at his options.
Of course, Stevens has had his injuries issues the last year. He was out for spring ball 2018 with a foot injury, and that same injury hindered him during the 2018 season, and was also the reason why he wasn’t a full participant for this spring.
Did the injury play a part in his transfer? Was Clifford separating himself from Stevens? Was it a combination of both? Who knows, but it appears likely that Stevens will be playing his redshirt season outside of Happy Valley.
