While many of us are still trying to wind down from the end of the College Wrestling Folkstyle season, USA Wrestling is ready to gear up for the national and international Freestyle season.
This morning, wrestling’s national governing body announced that Penn State Assistant Coach Casey Cunningham is the recipient of its 2018 Terry McCann Award, given to its Freestyle Coach of the Year.

As USA Wrestling notes, Cunningham, through his coaching role with the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club, was a close personal coach to Penn Stater David Taylor, who won his first World Championship last year, at 86kg/189lbs. This award from USAW comes on the heels of wrestling’s international governing body, United World Wrestling, naming Taylor its 2018 Best Freestyle Wrestler of the Year, in January.
All of which begs the question of what to expect from Jason Nolf & Bo Nickal, as they move on into Freestyle competition and continue to be coached by Casey and Cael and Cody.
Congratulations, Coach Casey. Thanks for keeping all our lads ready for battle!
