A vital, but overlooked, part of any college football program is the scout team. Without a scout team capable of giving a team’s starters quality reps in practice, it is difficult to properly prepare for upcoming games.
For college football teams, a key part of the scout team are walk ons. One such walk on at Penn State is redshirt sophomore wide receiver Justin Weller.
The Sinking Spring, PA, native came to Penn State from Wilson High School. After redshirting in 2017, he saw game action in 2018. Weller saw action on both offense and special teams in the team’s regular season ending blowout victory over Maryland.
Weller was able to make his presence felt on the scout team last fall. James Franklin and his staff named Weller the scout team offensive player of the week following his week of practice leading up to the 51-6 annihilation of Pitt in week two.
When thinking about the 2019 Nittany Lions, do not make the mistake of overlooking the scout team and its important role in the team’s success. This includes players such as Justin Weller.
We’re only 80 days away from the start of the 2019 Penn State Football season!
