Today’s portion of the countdown to the 2019 season kickoff pays homage to a key returning multi-year starter of the offensive line. When Ryan Bates and Connor McGovern both opted to forgo their final year of eligibility to enter the NFL Draft, many were left wondering if Steven Gonzalez would follow suit. Thankfully, the 5th-year senior opted to come back for one final ride .
A grizzled vet at this point, Gonzo’s 37 appearances in game action make him the most experienced returning member of the O-line crew. This should serve the unit well, as the line breaks in some talented, but new starters to try and protect Sean Clifford as well as create running lanes for whomever amongst that stable of running backs is carrying the ball.
As an added bonus: Here’s a clip of Steven talking about the O-line with the media during a Spring practice back in March.
