NCAA Football: Maryland at Penn State Matthew O’Haren-USA TODAY Sports

Danger Ahead It happens every year- a team that seems destined to head to the College Football Playoffs suddenly has its season derailed in a game they have no business losing. This year will be no different. ESPN identified the trap game hidden in the schedule for all of its preseason top 25 teams. The sports entertainment outlet pegged Maryland as its choice for the Nittany Lions, which makes sense- a road trip on a Friday night to face an opponent that will be more than amped for a shot to take down a team they view as a rival (They’re still trying to make this happen, right?). My choice, however, would be Minnesota, which comes following a brutal three game stretch that includes road contests at Iowa and Michigan State and the Michigan White Out game.

Take a Bow, Man One of the most electrifying members of Linebacker U. is hanging up his cleats for good. Bowman was a standout for Penn State when they had a true embarrassment of riches at the linebacker position, and went on to have a brilliant NFL career that was cut short by untimely injuries. Here’s hoping for all the best for NaVorro in whatever may come during his second act. Another alumnus of Linebacker U. is ready for bigger and better things in year two in the NFL.

Talking Trace Baltimore Ravens quarterback Trace McSorley hit the airwaves to talk about his alma mater. It looks like he’ll be spending his Saturdays cheering on a couple old friends at Mississippi State in addition to the Nittany Lions. Don’t fear though- he’s more than confident either Sean Clifford or Will Levis will be ready to put up points.

In the Trenches PJ Mustipher proved valuable right off the bat as a true freshman. Heading into his sophomore year, he’s preparing to become a more dominating presence and help Penn State become the top interior defensive line in the nation. We’ll gladly take it, PJ.

Built Ford Tough Incoming freshman running back Devyn Ford enters Penn State as a top 100 prospect and most highly-coveted running backs in the nation. It sure sounds like he’s itching to show the world what he can do, while also carrying along all those that have helped him get this far. Ford will be looking to share the field with Justin Shorter, another highly-regarded prospect who wants to help the Nittany Lions offense light up the scoreboard this fall.

Going Bowling The bowl tie-ins are set to shift again, in a never-ending endeavor to create a more compelling Cheez-It Bowl.
