We are officially through more days and then there are left in our countdown to Kickoff series, a wonderful benchmark in the off-season.
Personally, I need those 49 days to go super fast because I can’t handle watching the Phillies much longer. With that said, we’re on to No. 49 in today’s countdown, meaning we get to spotlight redshirt junior Daniel Joseph.
The Canadian-born but Illinois-raised defensive end was a member of the Nittany Lions 2016 recruiting class and was a four-star recruit. One of the top players in the state of Illinois coming out of high school and one of the nation’s top defensive ends, Joseph was a huge get for Joseph on the recruiting trail.
In his true freshman season, Joseph would redshirt not appearing in any games but would make his debut in 2017. That year as a redshirt freshman, he played in seven games where he recorded 10 tackles including 2.5 sacks. Last season, he appeared in 13 games but didn’t see any rise in numbers really, with just 12 tackles and a lone sack. He also forced one fumble.
Over the past two seasons, Joseph saw a lot of playing time on special teams with time on the defensive line coming here and there. That should change a bit in 2019 as he should have a better chance to get playing time on defense. He should be a bigger part of their rotation on the line this season.
Only 49 days until Penn State Football!
