Yesterday, Penn State landed a commitment from 2021 four-star tight end Nick Elksnis, who joined four-star wide receiver Dont’e Thornton in the Nittany Lions’ 2021 class. As is tradition though during the last few months of the recruiting cycle, the good vibes only lasted so long as Thornton announced earlier today that he has decommitted from Penn State.
Thornton — the No. 38 ranked player in the country for the 2021 class — originally committed to Penn State back in the winter, but went onto to take multiple visits to other schools throughout the spring and summer. With his National Signing Day being well over a year away, it came as no surprise that Thornton decided to re-open his recruitment. Hopefully with a strong season, Penn State can work its way back into the fold for Thornton.
