Tyler Rudolph will be entering his freshman season in Happy Valley this fall, but was able to join the team this past winter and take part in the Blue/White game. At 6 feet tall and 199 pounds, he already has good size to play safety.
In high school he played corner as well, and was ranked the 20th-best prospect at that position, while being rated as high as 18th as a safety by 247sports.
Rudolph had offers from some of the best programs in the country, including Clemson, Florida, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and more. He also was offered by Ohio State and Michigan.
There is a great safety in each class starting with Garratt Taylor as a senior, then Lamont Wade in the junior class, and Jonathan Sutherland is entering his redshirt sophomore season. Other players are mixed in as well between Rudolph and the current starters on the depth chart, but that should give the talented player from Waterbury, Conn., time to mature at a comfortable pace.
We may see him on special teams, and with the new rule, he may play a few games before taking a redshirt. Either way, it’s great to have a talented young player, with a game-ready body, waiting in the wings.
Just 21 more days to kickoff!
