We’re officially halfway through the final week of the countdown! Time to honor a man who will be leading a platoon of talented running backs in Ricky Slade. After a freshman year that saw him flash glimpses of what he’s capable of, Ricky will now have a chance to create plenty more highlight reel-worthy moments as the starting tailback in the Penn State offense. He even was able to obtain his old high school jersey No. 3 this offseason, after rocking the No. 4 jersey last season.
With a full offseason spent in the strength and conditioning program and with Miles Sanders off to the NFL, it’s Ricky’s turn to showcase his combination of speed, shiftiness, and power that made him a former 5-star recruit and Gatorade Player Of The Year in his native Virginia. Look for him to be utilized not just as a ball carrier, but also as a receiving threat out of the backfield, similar to Saquon Barkley.
Rocking the No. 3 jersey on the defensive side of the ball is Donovan Johnson. Last year, as a backup cornerback, Johnson saw action in 12 games, garnering 12 tackles and three pass break-ups. He will attempt to carve out more playing time for himself in 2019 and hopefully build upon those numbers from last season.
