Penn State cornerback Donovan Johnson was absent on the Nittany Lion’s first depth chart of the season released on Tuesday and now we have a reason for his absence.
On Wednesday night, it was announced by Penn State head coach James Franklin that Johnson has been suspended for Saturday’s season opener for a violation of team rules.

Johnson entering this season was expected to be a heavy contributor to the Nittany Lions defense after appearing in 12 games as a backup/reserve corner in 2018. While his suspension against Idaho won’t temper those expectations, it’s definetely not the way that Johnson wanted to start off his redshirt sophomore season.
The Nittany Lions will kickoff their 2019 season at 3:30 pm on Saturday afternoon against the Big Sky’s Idaho Vandals with the game set to be televised on the Big Ten Network.
