Black Shoe Degenerates, Week 5: Friday Night Lights

I am rarely an “under” man, and the one week I picked two of them are the times teams with no offense decided to be world beaters in that department. In fairness to Wisconsin, they did score 110 points in the two games prior to last weekend’s outing. That one was more on Michigan scoring some garbage time scores to make it look closer than the game actually was. The other one, of course, is Michigan State scoring over 30 points against a conference opponent for the first time since a year ago, when they scored 35 against Indiana. Speaking of Indiana, glad to see they actually pull their end of the bargain to avoid back-to-back 0-fer weeks.

Penn State -6.5 @ Maryland - The last time James Franklin faced a Mike Locksley-led Maryland Terrapins team, the Lions came away with a one-point victory that would have been a loss if not for a late interception. Maybe that is what Vegas is looking at in setting that line. What I’m looking at is the level of talent that team had, as compared to the one that heads to College Park this Friday. $500

Ohio State @ Nebraska Over 66.5 - Something tells me Ohio State is going to have 66 points by halftime. $100

Iowa -23.5 vs Middle Tennessee State - If Michigan could score 40 against Middle Tennessee, Iowa can score 40 against Middle Tennessee. Also, Iowa’s defense doesn’t suck. $50

Cal -4.5 vs Arizona State - Cal is the only remaining undefeated team in the Pac-12, and while Arizona State did beat Michigan State on the road, they followed that up by losing to Colorado at home. I’m going Cal. $50
