On paper, it looked like a promising match-up heading into the season. Penn State was replacing many key players following a 9-4 season, while Purdue was a program on the rise, making a bowl game and pulling off a massive upset against Ohio State in 2018. Instead, the Nittany Lions will be a 23.5 point favorite as they welcome the Boilermakers on Homecoming Weekend.
Flash forward to week six, and Penn State stands unbeaten while Purdue limps in to Happy Valley at 1-3. The Boilermakers somehow managed to blow a late lead and get upset against Nevada, before also falling to TCU in a blowout and Minnesota. Purdue may also be without its top two offensive stars against a ferocious Nittany Lions defense on Saturday.
Penn State and Purdue will kick off at noon Saturday on ESPN.
