Alright, now college football is really back.
Week 0 provided plenty of entertainment in its limited schedule, but Week 1 had a little bit of everything. And that was before Jalen Hurts made it seem plausible that we could have three-straight Heisman-winning Oklahoma quarterbacks.
Now that each team has a game under its belt, it’s time for some bowl projections, and Penn State fans may want to start planning annual trips to Florida.
There were few surprises from Penn State’s Week 1 victory over Idaho. Although, one player in particular showed off an attribute few knew he had. One thing that shouldn’t come as a surprise are the criticisms directed at coach James Franklin for “running up the score.”
In the end, the 72-point margin of victory did little for Penn State’s position in the polls. Some are more favorable to the Nittany Lions, however.
Full week 2 SP+ rankings coming shortly, but...— Bill Connelly (@ESPN_BillC) September 3, 2019
New SP+ top 10:
1. Bama (+36.6)
2. Clemson (+31.3)
3. LSU (+29.8)
4. UGA (+27.3)
5. Wisconsin (+22.8)
6. Penn State (+22.7)
7. Ohio State (+22.0)
8. Oklahoma (+21.5)
9. Texas A&M (+21.4)
10. Washington (+21.1)
As is the case with these early-season, non-conference games, Penn State is expected to win by a healthy margin in Week 2. With few reasons for complaint in Week 1, Franklin will roll with a similar depth chart against the Bulls.
Bulls coach Lance Leipold had plenty of praise for Franklin and the Nittany Lions. The Bulls are coming off a 38-10 win over Robert Morris, and will take on the Nittany Lions for just the fourth time ever.
