Meet the 2020 Class: DT Coziah Izzard

BSD’s recruiting staff sat down for a roundtable on each prospect Penn State signed in the 2020 class. Coming in at No. 18 was four-star defensive tackle Coziah Izzard.

What makes you excited about Coziah Izzard?

“Izzard just kept getting bigger and bigger in high school and yet maintained his burst for the most part, which usually isn’t the case. Penn State has badly lacked a tackle that can get after the quarterback recently and he has the potential to be just that.” --Clay

What worries you about Coziah Izzard?

“Izzard played defensive end in high school but will end up at defensive tackle at the collegiate level. This is not always an easy transition due to the difference between playing in space at end and playing in a crowd at tackle. There are also concerns about Izzard’s explosiveness at the point of attack which is vital on the defensive line.” --Marty

Do you think Coziah Izzard will be redshirted next season? Around what point of his career do you think he pushes for meaningful playing time?

“Penn State is more than fine with its depth at defensive tackle, so a redshirt season is a definite for Izzard. Because of that depth, it’s likely that Izzard won’t break into the rotation until his redshirt sophomore season in 2022 at the earliest.” --Patrick

What is your projection for Coziah Izzard: depth provider, starter, multi-year starter, all-conference, all-american?

Clay: Starter.
Marty: Depth provider.
Patrick: Depth provider.

Lastly, where do you have Coziah Izzard ranked in Penn State’s class?

Clay: 16th
Marty: 16th
Patrick: 21st
