Following Monday night’s National Championship game that saw the LSU down Clemson 42-25, the Associated Press released their final poll for the 2019 season. The poll featured a top 5 of LSU, Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia, and Oregon. With that, The Penn State Nittany Lions found themselves in the top 10 of the poll for the 27th time in program history, as they came in at No. 9.
Penn State was one of three Big Ten teams to finish in the top 10, joining the Buckeyes at No. 3 and the Minnesota Golden Gophers at No. 10. Wisconsin (No. 11), Iowa (No. 15), and Michigan (No. 18) round out the Big Ten’s showing in the poll.
The Big Ten’s six teams was the most of any conference in the poll with the SEC close behind with five. The conference with the third most? Well that would be none other than the AAC that saw four teams earn spots in the poll.
The Nittany Lions have now finished in the top 10 in three of the last four seasons. That is the best mark for the program since 1993 to 1996. Appearing in the poll also moved Penn State’s consecutive weeks mark to 57, the fifth longest streak in the nation.
