BSD’s recruiting staff sat down for a roundtable on each prospect Penn State signed in the 2020 class. Coming in at No. 13 was three-star DB Ji’Ayir Brown.
What makes you excited about Ji’Ayir Brown?
“Brown brings a little bit of everything to the safety position. He’s athletic, can play in coverage, can play against the run close to the line of scrimmage, and he has good ball skills. Brown brings a mix of everything to the Nittany Lion safety room that Tim Banks will welcome with arms wide open.” --Marty
What worries you about Ji’Ayir Brown?
“I think Brown is one of the safer bets in the class, so truthfully not all that much. I do think his upside is limited in some sense because he’s coming in as a JUCO, meaning that Penn State is going to have to squeeze quite a bit of development into two years instead of four. I mean, with Brown not enrolling until this summer, it means he will only have one full offseason with the Nittany Lions, which isn’t ideal for even the most talented of player.” --Patrick
Do you think Ji’Ayir Brown will be redshirted next season? Around what point of his career do you think he pushes for meaningful playing time?
“I’m torn here. Brown isn’t enrolling until summer and has some physical development to make, but he’s a ballhawk and the Nittany Lions need that. I think you’ll see him out there next year.” --Clay
What is your projection for Ji’Ayir Brown: depth provider, starter, multi-year starter, all-conference, all-american?
