Meet the 2020 Class: OT Olu Fashanu

New, 26 comments

BSD’s recruiting staff sat down for a roundtable on each prospect Penn State signed in the 2020 class. Coming in at No. 11 was three-star OT Olu Fashanu.

What makes you excited about Olu Fashanu?

Patrick: You have to start with Fashanu’s frame — he’s just a massive, massive kid at 6-foot-6, 320 pounds. If you draw up an offensive tackle, Fashanu is pretty close to what you want physically. For me though, beyond the measurables, I think what I like about Fashanu the most is the fact that he has a high floor. You watch his film, and while there’s certainly things to improve on — namely his hand placement — there’s just a whole lot to like. He’s a punishing run blocker, he’s comfortable in pass protection, moves his feet well, and shows really good balance overall.

It’s weird, because at one point I think most people had Fashanu tabbed as a raw prospect, but I really don’t see it that way. He needs refinement like any offensive lineman, but I view Fashanu as one of the safer prospects in the class — which is not something that is usually said about guys along the offensive front.

What worries you about Olu Fashanu?

“Honestly? Not much. Nothing is a sure thing, particularly three-star offensive linemen, but Fashanu is strong as an ox, he moves well, and he’s played against elite competition. If Fashanu never starts for PSU it’s likely because they landed guys like Landon Tengwall and Nolan Rucci in 2021.” --Clay

Do you think Olu Fashanu will be redshirted next season? Around what point of his career do you think he pushes for meaningful playing time?

Fashanu will redshirt in 2020, but it may not take him long to make an impact. He has all of the tools needed to become one of the best offensive tackles in the Big Ten, and I expect that to start to come to fruition 2-3 years down the road.” --Marty

What is your projection for Olu Fashanu: depth provider, starter, multi-year starter, all-conference, or all-american?

Clay: Multi-year starter
Marty: All-conference
Patrick: Multi-year starter

Lastly, where do you have Olu Fashanu ranked in Penn State’s class?

Clay: 9th
Marty: 14th
Patrick: 7th
