Sean Clifford did an outstanding job with the nearly impossible task of replacing Trace McSorley a season ago. With a little bit of polish and further development, the sky is the limit for the redshirt junior as he enters his second season as QB1.
Clifford tossed for 2,654 yards with 23 touchdowns and seven interceptions in his first year as a starter, while also contributing 402 yards and another five scores on the ground. The key stat to look for in Clifford’s second year as starter is completion percentage. If he can improve on the 59.2% completion rate from a year ago, there is good reason to believe he will develop into one of the nation’s top quarterbacks in 2020 and beyond.
The Nittany Lions are welcoming back two of Clifford’s favorite targets in Pat Freiermuth and Jahan Dotson, but Clifford will need to quickly build rapport with several promising, yet inexperienced, receivers. He will also be aided by a veteran offensive line and a list of talented running backs.
We’re just 14 days from Sean Clifford leading the offense into battle against Indiana!
