HIGHLIGHTS
THE TALE
The Nittany Lions offered Dinkins back in February after a strong junior season. The son of former NFL tight end Darnell Dinkins, who is a Pitt alum, Khalil is a big body who has used that size to his benefit in his high school career.
Penn State initially seemed to slow play this recruitment, only picking up steam in the last month or so and stepping to the forefront of Dinkins’ list.
After picking up additional offers in spring from Virginia Tech and Kentucky among others, the North Allegheny product began to really dive into the process with Penn State coming out on top in the end.
OUTLOOK
With Theo Johnson in 2020 and two high-level tight end prospects in the 2022 class already, it’ll be interesting to see whether Dinkins sticks at tight end for the Nittany Lions.
If he can add size, he may find his way to the defensive side of the ball at either linebacker or potentially defensive end if he can handle that sort of weight on his frame.
For now, Dinkins enters the 2021 class as a solid athlete that offers positional versatility and good bloodlines. How he develops will be huge in determining whether he can be a productive member of the class in the future.
