Black Shoe Degenerates: Week Five

New, 7 comments

Which degenerate will come out on top this week?

NCAA Football: Alabama at Missouri Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Week five of the college football season will get underway on Friday night when Lousiana Tech travels to BYU to take on the Cougars which means it’s time for the fifth week of our weekly prediction game. With a new week comes our new name for this series, Black Shoe Degenerates.

Scoreboard:

Through four weeks of action, our leading degenerate is Clay who has 54 points on the year and quite the lead over second-place Marty and the rest of the group. It’s been about two weeks since I last posted a scoreboard, so below you will find each player’s respective points and then the total points they’ve earned over weeks three and four in parenthesis.

  • Clay: 54 (20)
  • Marty : 43 (22)
  • Eli: 36 (20)
  • Dylan: 32 (25)
  • Chris: 32 (21)
  • Lando: 24 (11)
  • Jared: 24 (11)

This week’s action:

TCU at No.9 Texas (-11)
Texas is coming off an upset scare at the hands of Texas Tech last weekend and was able to score 15-points in the final three minutes of action to tie the game before winning it in overtime 63-56. This week, they’ll look to take down the TCU Hornfrogs who are coming off a 34-31 loss to Iowa State last weekend.

Clay’s Pick: Texas 41 - TCU 24
Lando’s Pick: Texas 35 - TCU 20
Marty’s Pick: Texas 38 - TCU 20
Jared’s Pick: Texas 42 - TCU 35
Chris’s Pick: Texas 38 - TCU 21
Dylan’s Pick: Texas 42 - TCU 20
Eli’s Pick: Texas 35, TCU 31

Baylor (-3) at WVU

Baylor is coming off a big win over the Kansas Jayhawks while West Virginia struggled offensively against Oklahoma State. Can Dave Aranda’s group get a big win on the road as the Big 12 title race appears to be wide open this season or does Neal Brown’s Mountaineers bounce back from last week’s loss.

Clay’s Pick: WVU 27 - Baylor 17
Lando’s Pick: WVU 28 - Baylor 21
Marty’s Pick: Baylor 27 - WVU 21
Jared’s Pick: Baylor 30 - WVU 24
Chris’s Pick: Baylor 35 - WVU 28
Dylan’s Pick: Baylor 31 - WVU 24
Eli’s Pick: WVU 27, Baylor 24

No.13 Texas A&M at No.2 Alabama (-17)

Alabama took care of business last week against Missouri while Texas A&M struggled with a much weaker Vanderbilt team. Will the Crimson Tide just roll over the Aggies on Saturday or will Jimbo Fisher have his Aggies ready to go in Tuscaloosa?

Clay’s Pick: Bama 34 - TAMU 20
Lando’s Pick: Bama 31 - TAMU 14
Marty’s Pick: Alabama 35 - TAMU 14
Jared’s Pick: Alabama 38 - TAMU 17
Chris’s Pick: Alabama 42 - TAMU 21
Dylan’s Pick: Alabama 45 - TAMU 20
Eli’s Pick: Alabama 31, TAMU 27

No.25 Memphis (-2.5) at SMU

A highly intriguing Group of Five matchup this weekend pits the 1-0 Memphis Tigers against the 3-0 SMU Mustangs. Memphis is the favorite in the game but the Tigers haven’t played a game since week one of the season. Will SMU’s three games under their belt play as an advantage against a possibly rusty Memphis?

Clay’s Pick: Memphis 41 - SMU 35
Lando’s Pick: Memphis 34 - SMU 31
Marty’s Pick: Memphis 38 - SMU 35
Jared’s Pick: Memphis 45 - SMU 37
Chris’s Pick: Memphis 45 - SMU 35
Dylan’s Pick: SMU 42 - Memphis 39
Eli’s Pick: SMU 41, Memphis 38

No.7 Auburn at No.4 Georgia (-7)

The game of the weekend pits two top-10 opponents against each other in Athens. The Auburn Tigers are coming off a gutsy win over the Kentucky Wildcats while the Georgia Bulldogs were able to rebound from a tough first half against Arkansas to roll to a 37-10 victory. USC quarterback transfer J.T Daniels has been cleared for action after missing the Bulldogs first game last weekend that saw Dwan Mathis and Stetson Bennett under center for Georgia. The biggest question in the game is who will be at quarterback for the Bulldogs and if it is J.T Daniels will he be ready to face one of the best team’s in the country?

Clay’s Pick: Auburn 27 - UGA 17
Lando’s Pick: Georgia 27 - Auburn 21
Marty’s Pick: Georgia 24 - Auburn 21
Jared’s Pick: Auburn 27 - UGA 24
Chris’s Pick: Georgia 24 - Auburn 21
Dylan’s Pick: Auburn 24 - UGA 20
Eli’s Pick: Auburn 34, Georgia 24

[Ed. note: Black Shoe Degenerates takes on a different format every season. The uncertainty of this year led me to reconsider coming up with my own iteration for this year, and Dylan gracefully agreed to take on the mantle for me this year. I do have something major cooking up, and I can’t wait to include everyone next season ~Eli]
