College Football Games to Watch This Week (When You’re Not Watching Penn State)

New, 17 comments
NCAA Football: Army at Navy James Lang-USA TODAY Sports

Navy at Army
3 p.m., CBS

Prepare for three hours of hard-fought, smashmouth football in wintry conditions that is almost assured to go down to the wire. The best rivalry in college football rarely disappoints.
Prediction: Army-20, Navy-17

(#17)North Carolina at (#10)Miami
3:30 p.m., ABC

This is the game of the week of paper, and offers a compelling match-up of North Carolina’s offense against Miami’s defense. While the ‘Canes have been typically stout, some offenses have found it easy to move the ball on them, suggesting we could be in for a barnburner.
Prediction: North Carolina-41, Miami-38

Games to watch because they’re in-state rivalries where anything can happen.

Arizona State at Arizona (Fri.)
7 p.m., ESPN
Prediction: Arizona State-17, Arizona-14

USC at UCLA
7:30 p.m., ABC
Prediction: USC-30, UCLA-24

Virginia Tech at Virginia
8 p.m., ACCN
Prediction: Virginia- 28, Virginia Tech-23

Stanford at Oregon State
10:30 p.m., ESPNU

If you’re not quite ready to call it a day, this one should be worth the lost zzzs. Oregon State has been somewhat of a pleasant surprise in the PAC 12, and while they have a ways to go, leave it all out on the field each week. Stanford started the season on a three-game skid, but now looks to extend its winning streak to three following wins against Cal and #22 Washington the past two weeks.
Prediction: Oregon State-31, Stanford-26
