After Keyvone Lee took home the award a week ago, Joey Porter Jr. has been named the Big Ten freshman of the week this time around after a seven-tackle performance against Rutgers.
Porter Jr. has been a revelation of sorts for the Nittany Lions this season, becoming one of the team’s most reliable players. He helped anchor a secondary that held the Scarlet Knights to just 122 yards through the air.
The redshirt freshman has started every game this year for Penn State and has emerged as one of the Big Ten’s best corners. He and Keaton Ellis lead a strong group of second-year defensive backs that the Nittany Lions will be depending on heading into the 2021 season.
