While many of us (Yours Truly included) were busy soaking in the basketball team’s continued climb towards a Big Ten championship, your No. 2 ranked Nittany Lion lacrosse team hit the road at 20th-ranked Villanova this past Saturday and walked away victorious, thanks to an explosive second quarter performance.

The two teams exchanged goals in the first quarter, with the game being tied at four goals apiece going into the second quarter. The tide changed for Penn State just a couple minutes into the second quarter, when Grant Ament, Nate Buller, Dylan Foulds, and Gerard Arceri all scored goals for PSU within a minute and a half. Ament would add two more goals as part of a second quarter that saw PSU outscore Villanova 8-1, taking a 12-5 lead into halftime.

Villanova would get no closer than within five points the rest of the way, as Ament would go on to become PSU’s all-time career points leader, racking up eight total points (three goals, five assists). The previous record had been held by Gary Martin, who played from 1981-84. O’Keefe and midfielder Jack Kelly led PSU in goals with four each, while Arceri won 21 of 32 face-offs.

The 2-0 Nittany Lions return home next Saturday to the friendly confines of Panzer Stadium, where they will play host to St. Joseph’s at Noon ET. That game can be watched via the BTN-Plus streaming service.
