Midweek Musings - My Heart Can’t Take This

Someone call 911

Matthew OHaren-USA TODAY Sports

Last night, Penn State blew a huge lead to the visiting Rutgers Scarlet Knights, and with less than a minute to go in the game, found themselves trailing. For once, however, the late game heroics favored the Lions, and PSU held on for a 65-62 win.

That win stemmed the bleeding, as the Lions had dropped back-to-back games, and were looking at a third straight loss had Rutgers held on.

My heart can’t take this.

It was one thing when the basketball team wasn’t that great. NIT-type seasons were the norm, maybe take down one or two ranked opponents, but no real expectations.

Now, the team is a NCAA Tournament team, and is fighting for seeding in both the dance and the Big Ten Tournament. Each and every win is crucial, and the more I watch, the more I get palpitations.

Don’t get me wrong, I am really enjoying this season, and however it finishes, I will be very proud of this team finally proving the doubters (myself included!) wrong.

But man, tuning in to any given game and not having a real clue on how it will play out is nerve-wracking. Having actual stakes to play for gets my hackles up, and knowing that a stumble against Rutgers would cause some major headaches in just a few weeks when the tournaments start up is nauseating.

And then they win, and all is right with the world - until the next game.

Let’s go boys!
