Lamar Stevens Makes Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 List

Lamar remains in the hunt for college hoops’ version of the Heisman Trophy

NCAA Basketball: Indiana at Penn State Matthew OHaren-USA TODAY Sports

Lamar Stevens is having quite the senior season: His team is on the warpath towards securing Penn State’s first NCAA Tournament bid in nearly a decade, he just became only the third PSU player to eclipse 2,000 career points, and now he finds himself being named to the John R. Wooden Award’s late season Top 20 list.

Other fellow Big Ten members on the list include Maryland’s Anthony Cowan Jr. and Jalen Smith, Cassius Winston (Michigan State), Daniel Oturu (Minnesota), and Luka Garza (Iowa).

Think of the Wooden Award as college basketball’s version of the Heisman Trophy. Past winners include Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Durant. About 1,000 voters (media and fans) will decide on the Top 10 recipients right before the NCAA Tournament, with the Wooden All-American Team being announced during the Elite Eight round, and the Wooden Award winner eventually being announced on April 10th.

We here at BSD all wish a hearty congrats to Lamar!
