We continue our series highlighting our wonderful photographer Heather Weikel’s favorite images from the 2019 football season. Give Heather a follow at @hweikelphoto on Twitter to see more of her work.
Disruptive defenses has been a staple of Penn State football for as long as I can remember, and while sometimes the Nittany Lion defense left something to be desired this past season, it overall played to its reputation. One of the contributors to that disruption was Robert Windsor, seen here closing in on Shea Patterson, who seemingly has no idea of what’s about to befall him in about a quarter of a second.
Last year’s whiteout started out as scripted, with the Nittany Lions taking a quick 21-7 lead and looking like the hammer was going to come down. And, had this play not been called back, that’s likely what would have happened:

But, as Mr. Jim Harbaugh himself says, if worms had machine guns, or something like that. Michigan proceeded to come back and make it a game, failing on a fourth down conversion with seconds left to play, which secured the victory for our Nittany Lions.
Thus concludes our photo of the day series. I hope y’all had fun reliving some of the best moments* of last season, and you’re looking forward to the NFL draft. Thanks to Heather for the amazing images, and stay safe everyone!
