THE TALE

James Frankin provided a nice surprise on Sunday afternoon with a surprise We Are...Better! tweet announcing the flip of McGraw from Indiana to Penn State. McGraw had zero 247Sports crystal ball picks until Sunday evening when Direct of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong popped in with one just an hour before McGraw’s announcement. McGraw picked up his Penn State offer in September of 2019 and visited shortly thereafter, taking in Penn State’s White Out victory over Michigan on an unofficial visit. He mad an initial commitment to the Hoosiers on January 28, but it appears the Nittany Lions turned up the heat and secured the flip just a few months later.

OUTLOOK

McGraw is the prototype when you look at the type of defensive ends Penn State has recruited most under James Franklin. He stands at 6-foot-5 and 223 pounds with the frame to put on another 30-plus pounds, similar to what we’ve seen from Yetur Gross-Matos, Jayson Oweh and Adisa Isaac before him. While each of those three were higher-ranked recruits, all three were late risers, something we could see from McGraw if he’s able to play his senior season. McGraw plays a bit upright, but his tape shows a high motor and with refined technique he could become a big-time player at the next level.
