PJ Mustipher arrived on campus ready to contribute. Entering his junior season this fall, he has already played in 25 games, starting one. The Maryland native is set to contribute heavily in the upcoming season.
At 6-foot-4 and 305 pounds, it’s kind of hard to miss Mustipher in the middle of the Penn State defensive line. He has one sack, 5.5 tackles for loss and 2 forced fumbles so far and with his playing time on the rise, we should see more of that. While it is nice to get production in the stat sheet from an interior lineman, what is most important is that they occupy blockers.
Like many players that see the field early in their career, PJ struggled a little with consistency. When he gives his maximum effort he is hard to handle. As he matures, we should see a higher percentage of snaps at his best.
Off the field he arrived mature enough to carry himself in a way that could make him a future team leader. Last season, following the Michigan white-out win, he spoke with the media. For a true sophomore, his composure is pretty impressive.
Let’s hope for big season from the big guy. 97 more days until Penn State football!
