Penn State Basketball to Play Florida at Barclay’s Center in December

The hoops squad gets a nice boost to its non-conference slate against a fellow would’ve-been 2020 NCAA Tournament team.

Earlier this week, Penn State’s hoops program announced via Twitter that they would be returning to the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn for the second straight year. This time, it will be to face the Florida Gators on December 13th.

The game against the Gators will be one of four contests played that day in Barclay’s Center. Purdue-West Virginia, Stanford-Georgia Tech, and Army-Princeton will comprise of the other matchups. The PSU-Florida game will be a one-off, and not part of a mini-tournament like PSU played in last year at Barclay’s when they lost to Ole Miss in the first game before beating Syracuse in the second game.

No doubt, this is a nice boost to the strength of the non-conference portion of PSU’s schedule, and it signifies Pat Chambers’ desire to get his team as ready as possible for the rough and tumble nature that is Big Ten basketball. The Gators are coming off a season that saw themselves go 19-12 overall and 11-7 in SEC play, having them firmly projected to be in the field of 68 amongst all the bracketologists out there. Sadly of course, neither programs were able to enjoy their impending March Madness bids, due to COVID-19.
