With the Big Ten’s announcement that fall sports will play a conference-only schedule in 2020, our countdown temporarily comes to a screeching halt. It’s something we’ve never had to think about in the decade-plus of the countdown that gets us closer and closer to that glorious day when our thirst for football is finally quenched as the Nittany Lions rush on to the field to begin a new season, filled with hope that this will be THE year. But there hasn’t been anything like 2020, at least in most of our lifetimes.
We’ll wait for further announcements to see what Penn State’s new 10-game schedule will look like, and will certainly have plenty to say about it. But for now, we know that the season will not kick off on Sept. 5 against Kent State as initially planned. We hope to bring the countdown back very soon, and can’t wait to start look forward to a new season of Nittany Lions football, whenever and however it occurs.
