Micah Parsons was among the finalists for the 2019 Butkus Award as a true sophomore, but the prize ultimately went home with Clemson’s Isiah Simmons. This year, he’s ready to remove any doubt that he’s the nation’s top linebacker.
Parsons added to his preseason recognition by being named to the Butkus Award watchlist. The award is given annually to the nation’s top linebacker in each collegiate level. Parsons is among 51 watch list candidates, an intentional number of candidates to honor the number worn by Dick Butkus during his Hall of Fame career with the Chicago Bears.
This is already the third watchlist to include Parsons after also being named to the LOTT Impact Trophy list as well as for the prestigious Bednarik Award, which is given to the best overall defensive player in college football.
Parsons joins teammates Pat Freiermuth, Journey Brown, Noah Cain and Sean Clifford to be named to preseason award watchlists.
