Even with last week’s excellent news about all 178 COVID-19 test results of Penn State athletes coming back negative, it was hard not to wonder how long it would be before someone tested positive. Unfortunately, that day has come, as Onward State reported this morning that Penn State announced that one athlete had tested positive for coronavirus. Neither the athlete’s name, nor their sport was disclosed.

Per university and local/national guidelines, the athlete will go into self-quarantine for the next 14 days and will be re-tested at the end of the quarantine period. The university is also implementing contact tracing procedures to identify other individuals who may have been exposed to said athlete.

According to the Onward State article, Penn State Athletics releases their batch of COVID-19 testing results every other Wednesday. Since last Wednesday was when the 178 results were released, expect the next such report to come out a week from today on July 29th.
