Eight Penn State Athletes Test Positive for COVID-19

This is up from two weeks ago, when Penn State announced that just one athlete tested positive for the virus.

Penn State Athletics came out with its latest batch of COVID-19 testing results, announcing that eight of the 466 Penn State athletes have tested positive for the virus.

This is an increase from two weeks ago, when just one Penn State athlete had coronavirus.

There are two ways to look at this:

  1. There were always going to be positive cases. There was no reality where 466 athletes would come back to State College, and nary a soul would test positive for COVID-19.
  2. That being said: What happens when students return to campus in August? While eight out of 466 (granted 66 are pending) isn’t a doomsday scenario right now, it does show an increase — and that increase will only get more dramatic when non-athletes are back in State College.
