The first edition of the 2020 AP Top 25 was released Monday morning and despite not actually participating in the season, Penn State somewhat inexplicably checks in at No. 7.
The Nittany Lions are the second-highest ranked team in the Big Ten behind Ohio State which landed at No. 2. Wisconsin followed at No. 12 with Michigan at No. 16, Minnesota at No. 19 at Iowa at No. 24.
Team not competing this season will appear in the poll until the start of the season at which point the poll will only include teams with fall schedules.
Penn State finished the 2019 season at No. 9 after a 53-39 victory in the Cotton Bowl over Memphis.
