2020 was set to be a potentially special season for the Penn State football program. And then 2020 happened.

To underscore this point, both Micah Parsons and Pat Freiermuth were named Associated Press preseason first-team All-Americans on Tuesday.

Parsons and Freiermuth were both second-team All-Americans a year ago via a number of outlets and were set to lead maybe the most-balanced Penn State team since 1994 into the season.

The former had already announced his intent to skip any prospective season amidst the pandemic before the official cancellation. While the latter planned to play and to this point still plans to play in a spring season should it happen. Parsons finished his two-year career at Penn State with 191 total tackles, 6.5 sacks and six forced fumbles. Freiermuth meanwhile made 43 catches for 507 yards and seven touchdowns a year ago.
