REPORT: Micah Parsons to Opt Out of Upcoming Season

If Penn State is to have a 2020 season, it will be without the nation’s top defensive player.

The college football world received some big news late Tuesday night when Yahoo Sports’ Eric Edholm reported that Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons was expected to opt out of the 2020 season amid concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic.

Edholm reports that he expects confirmation sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday. Parsons follows Minnesota wideout Rashod Bateman in opting out and becomes the largest name yet to do so.

The junior came to Penn State as a five-star recruit and hasn’t disappointed, leading the team in tackles each of the first two years of his career and becoming an All-American a year ago.

Prior to the season, Parsons was named to just about every watch list he was eligible and was recently named the Big Ten’s preseason pick for defensive player of the year in a poll done by Cleveland.com.

While it’s still up in the as to whether a season will even be played at this point, it looks like either way Penn State will be without it’s star linebacker.
