Only Von Walker Until Penn State Football

Three and a half weeks until the return of college football in Happy Valley!

Kent State v Penn State

While legendary running back Curt Warner wore the jersey in the 1980’s, the number 25 has been somewhat cursed in the past decade at Penn State, with Silas Redd and Brelin Faison-Walden both transferring from the university prior to the end of their careers. The number is currently worn by redshirt freshman cornerback Daequan Hardy, who played in two games last season but did not record any statistics. Let’s take a brief look back at another player to don the jersey, linebacker Von Walker.

Walker was a quarterback and defensive back at nearby Central Mountain High School, and walked on to the Nittany Lions in 2013, seeing time in 11 games on offense, defense, and special teams. Walker continued to contribute primarily on special teams in 2014 and 2015, but also was a factor at linebacker, starting three games over the two seasons. In Walker’s senior season, he was named team captain, and saw game action in 11 of 14 contests,

I’ll be honest and say I didn’t think Walker would make much of an impact throughout his career, and although it didn’t necessarily show up on the stat sheet, he was definitely an important part of the Big Ten title-winning team in 2016.
