BSD’s recruiting staff sat down for a roundtable on each prospect Penn State signed in the 2021 class. Coming in at No. 10 was three-star linebacker Jamari Buddin.
What makes you excited about Jamari Buddin?
“Buddin is a thumper who really flies to the football and should be able to carry another 15-20 pounds on his frame fairly easily. He’s the ideal build for what Brent Pry wants in a WILL and has the quickness to run with tight ends down the field.” --Clay
What worries you about Jamari Buddin?
“There is no denying the twitch that Buddin has and his athleticism. That said, there are plenty of questions about his ability to be a linebacker. He needs to add weight to his frame which is not always easy, nor is it a guarantee he can add this weight and keep his athleticism. It also remains to be seen if Buddin will have the ability to dissect a play and react the way he will need to as a full time linebacker.” --Marty
Do you think Jamari Buddin will be redshirted next season? Around what point of his career do you think he pushes for meaningful playing time?
“Like King, there is just too much in front of Buddin. He’s probably a Will in Penn State’s defense, which pits him against the likes of Brandon Smith and Curtis Jacobs — tough go for a true frosh. Would be very surprised if a redshirt year wasn’t in store for Buddin.” --Patrick
What do you think is the most realistic outcome for Jamari Buddin: depth provider, starter, multi-year starter, all-conference, or all-american?
Clay: Starter
Marty: Depth provider
Patrick: Depth provider
Lastly, where do you have Jamari Buddin ranked in Penn State’s class?
Clay: 8th
Marty: 11th
Patrick: 12th
