Meet The 2021 Class: CB Kalen King

Top 3!

Penn State Athletics

BSD’s recruiting staff sat down for a roundtable on each prospect Penn State signed in the 2021 class. Coming in at No. 3 was four-star cornerback Kalen King.

What makes you excited about Kalen King?

“...everything? Seriously, there is little that King does not do well. He flips his hips and runs with guys in coverage. King changes direction well and has excellent technique as a cornerback. His elite athleticism will allow him to run with any receiver in the Big Ten, while also being a potential terror in the return game. Plays both man and zone coverage well.” --Marty

What worries you about Kalen King?

“Different positions, but I’ll say something similar to what I said about Parker Washington last year: if you don’t have elite size/length and don’t have elite speed, then how high can your upside be? I think King is one of the best pure football players in the class, and I would be surprised if he isn’t a starter for Penn State at some point. But he’s under 6-foot-0 tall, and doesn’t project as someone who runs a sub 4.4 forty. Really good football player? Absolutely. But he lacks some of the elite physical traits to be a next level prospect.” --Patrick

Do you think Kalen King will be redshirted next season? Around what point of his career do you think he pushes for meaningful playing time?

“King will likely redshirt because of the glut of talent Penn State suddenly has at corner, but he has the talent to play next year.” --Clay

What do you think is the most realistic outcome for Kalen King: depth provider, starter, multi-year starter, all-conference, or all-american?

Clay: All-conference
Marty: All-conference
Patrick: All-conference

Lastly, where do you have Kalen King ranked in Penn State’s class?

Clay: 3rd
Marty: 2nd
Patrick: 4rd
