Meet The 2021 Class: WR Lonnie White Jr

No. 2!

Penn State Athletics

BSD’s recruiting staff sat down for a roundtable on each prospect Penn State signed in the 2021 class. Coming in at No. 2 was four-star wide receiver Lonnie White.

What makes you excited about Lonnie White Jr?

“I’m going to put unrealistic expectations on Lonnie White, who reminds me a ton of Dez Bryant. He’s not the tallest wideout (6-2, like Bryant), but he plays big and goes up and gets the ball. After the catch he’s an absolute nightmare to get to the ground and is shiftier than you’d expect with someone his size (210 pounds). There’s certainly a big jump up in competition coming and some refining to do, but if Taylor Stubblefield does his job I think you’re looking at a future first-round pick with major caveat being that he could go in the first round of the 2021 MLB Draft and break my heart.” --Clay

What worries you about Lonnie White Jr?

“Three words: Major League Baseball. On the football field White is a dude. He can be an outstanding receiver in the Big Ten. That said, he is one of the top 50 or so prospects for this upcoming summer’s MLB Draft. White will be drafted and offered a few million dollars in signing money… that’s hard to say no to.” --Marty

Do you think Lonnie White Jr will be redshirted next season? Around what point of his career do you think he pushes for meaningful playing time?

“If White enrolls in Happy Valley — and I think he will because an education from an Ivy League school like Penn State is priceless, Lonnie — I don’t think he’ll redshirt. He’s not a total green light, though — he’s a bit rawer of a prospect than you’d hope for. But Penn State’s wide receiver room doesn’t have a ton in the way of depth, and White’s size, speed, and thiccness is just too enticing to sit on the sidelines for a season. So no redshirt season in 2021, and pushing for a starting role in 2022 when Dotson moves on.” --Patrick

What do you think is the most realistic outcome for Lonnie White Jr: depth provider, starter, multi-year starter, all-conference, or all-american?

Clay: All-American
Marty: All-conference
Patrick: All-conference

Lastly, where do you have Lonnie White Jr ranked in Penn State’s class?

Clay: 2nd
Marty: 3rd
Patrick: 2nd
