First and foremost, let’s give props to Urban Meyer. He decided to not take any members of Ohio State’s on-the-field coaching staff, but takes Penn State’s second-best recruiter. Thanks, Urban, you big idiot.
Anyway, this leaves Penn State with a big hole to fill on its coaching staff. Bowen was obviously an impactful coach on the field — as evidenced by Pat Freiermuth’s progression throughout his career — but perhaps more importantly, Bowen was a stellar recruiter. No matter who Penn State hires, Bowen’s presence on the recruiting trail won’t be easy to replace.
We’ll have a full big board for Wednesday, taking a look at strong recruiting candidates in the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast, and also potential coaches who could fit into the co-offensive coordinator spot Bowen leaves available.
