Penn State Basketball Sees Slew of Players Enter Transfer Portal

Micah Shrewsberry will have plenty of roster spots to fill in the coming recruiting classes.

Update: Seth Lundy has entered his name in the transfer portal. The list is now at six players. Lundy speaks on his decision with 247 Sports.

This morning brought us the news that both Jamari Wheeler and John Harrar would be entering the transfer portal as graduate transfers out of the Penn State basketball program.

As it turns out, that was just the start of those announcements. It’s since been reported that Myreon Jones, Izaiah Brockington and Trent Buttrick have each put their names into the portal as well amid the end of the 2021 season and the hiring of new head coach Micah Shrewsberry.

The moves don’t come as a particular surprise given the way the last year has gone around the program. Previous head coach Pat Chambers was fired abruptly following an internal investigation after an incident involving former player Rasir Bolton, though players were never informed of the findings of that investigation and very quickly went to bat for Chambers.

Though the team performed admirably for interim head coach Jim Ferry, the writing was always on the wall for both Ferry and a number of team members and when Shrewsberry was announced as the new head coach on Monday, it essentially sealed the deal.

Notably, Myles Dread, Sam Sessoms and Seth Lundy have yet to enter the portal, though all eyes will surely be on those three moving forward as Penn State hoops fans, as well as Shrewsberry, try to get a handle on what the Nittany Lions will have returning in 2021-22.
