When Jamari Wheeler entered the transfer portal a couple of weeks ago, it seemed as if he was good as gone, no matter how great of a pitch Micah Shrewsberry made to try to get him to reconsider. What wasn’t anticipated perhaps, was Jamari opting to transfer to a Big Ten rival, but that’s precisely what’s happening as he announced tonight via Twitter that he will play his final year of college basketball at Ohio State.
No doubt this transfer in particular, is a tough one for Penn State fans to swallow, and it sure won’t be fun for his former teammates next season when they end up being guarded by him.
At the same time, Jamari clearly was hoping to play his final year at a program that will likely be in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. Upset loss to Oral Roberts aside, Chris Holtmann has a pretty good thing going in Columbus right now. As an added bonus, he also gets a chance to stick it to Sandy Barbour and the rest of the PSU athletic administration whose disdain he made clear during media day last Fall.
