As is routine for the Big Ten, the conference announced which opponents each team will face this upcoming season, given fans an opportunity to see who their teams will play home, away, and both, in 2021-22.
The Nittany Lions will play Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, and Rutgers home and away next season. They will host Michigan, Nebraska, and Purdue, and travel Illinois, Maryland, and Wisconsin.
It’s a bit early to tell how this will shake out, as rosters across the conference are not final yet. Also, knowing who Penn State is half the battle. Knowing when the Lions play who is the other half, and we won’t know that information until much later in the summer, when the Big Ten announces the complete schedule.
All that said, some things do stand out. Michigan and Purdue are likely to remain at or near the top of the conference going into next season, and Maryland may join them there. Playing all three of those once may very well be in the Nittany Lions’ best interests. On the other hand, Jamari Wheeler will find himself visiting the place he used to call home when the Ohio State Buckeyes visit Penn State next season.
Stay tuned for more scheduling news as it becomes available.
