We’re less than 100 days out from the official start of the Penn State football season, and this year we’re starting off our countdown with a fellow Maryland Nittany Lion in defensive tackle Coziah Izzard.
Izzard committed to Penn State in the summer of 2019, a four-star big man out of Howard County who played (and was a two-time captain) for the vaunted DMV-area DeMatha Catholic football team. Izzard picked the good guys out of a who’s-who list of offers, like Alabama, Ohio State, and LSU.
Though Izzard played defensive end in high school, he projected to the interior of the line in college, and indeed that’s where he saw time in the weird 2020 football season. He played in 3 games last year, which would have ensured his redshirt even without the free year of eligibility that was granted to all players last season.
Though our staff hasn’t predicted Izzard to be a full-time starter in his redshirt freshman season, he should push for playing time on the two-deep and should be a part of the on-field rotation pretty early on.
Just 99 days until PSU takes on Wisconsin in Madison to kick start the 2021 season!
