HIGHLIGHTS
THE TALE
After a strong spring junior season, offers began to pour in for Johnson. Between April 18 and May 23, he landed offers from Duke, Boston College, Wake Forest, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Maryland, and of course, Penn State. Johnson solidified his spot on Penn State’s recruiting board after an unofficial visit on June 16, where he worked out for the staff. A few days later, Johnson returned to Happy Valley for an official visit, and made the call for the Nittany Lions just a day later.
Johnson becomes the fourth wide receiver in the 2022 recruiting class, joining four-stars Kaden Saunders, Anthony Ivey, and Mehki Flowers — though it’s possible the latter could potentially end up at safety.
OUTLOOK
Adding another wide receiver with what else is still potentially out there — namely, Darrius Clemons and Christian Driver — probably wasn’t too high on Penn State’s recruiting “to-do” list this summer, but it’s clear that Johnson’s camp performance was too much to pass on. Johnson doesn’t have elite size, but he’s a smooth athlete who really dominated his competition this spring; you don’t score 13 touchdowns in just four games without being a “next level” type of player.
