Punter are people too, and for that reason we take today, the 93rd day out from the start of Penn State football, to celebrate a great one.
Blake Gillikin came to Penn State as about as close to can’t-miss as you can get of a punting prospect out of Atlanta and largely lived up to that billing.
While Gillkin maybe didn’t hit the heights that some may have hoped for, he was steady throughout his career with the Nittany Lions. He finished his time in Happy Valley tied for second in PSU history with a 43.03 yard-per-punt average.
He was a captain his senior year a two-time Academic All-American in addition to an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection as a senior.
Gillkin has since continued his career in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints, for whom he’s expected to be the starting punter in 2021.
