Only Jesse Luketa Until Penn State Football

40 days to go!

NCAA Football: Michigan State at Penn State Matthew OHaren-USA TODAY Sports

During the 2020 season Jesse Luketa was thrusted into a big role at linebacker after Micah Parsons opted out of the season. The true junior led the Nittany Lions with 59 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for a loss, a pair of pass breakups and a fumble recovery.

Luketa started all 9 games for the Nittany Lions in 2020 as a starting linebacker. Luketa was also a team captain for the Nittany Lions, which was not a big surprise as he was a player pegged as a potential future captain when the highly touted 2018 recruiting class signed with Penn State.

In 2021, however, Luketa could also make an impact at defensive end. At the end of spring practice James Franklin floated the idea of Luketa seeing playing time at defensive end. With Luketa’s build (6-foot-3, 251 pounds) being better suited for defensive end to go with Penn State’s depth questions at the position, Luketa could make an impact for John Scott Jr. in 2021.
